Inspired by Hiroshi Teshigahara’s 1964 New Wave film adaptation of Abe's "The Woman in the Dunes", the installation “Suna No Onna” combines a mound of ever-advancing sand with a simple bronze mirrored plinth. The endless reflection of the material is meant to evoke the Sisyphean tasks to which Junpei, the films protagonist, eventually resigns.
Lighting and feather works by ABYU Lighting are also incorporated into the installation.
